IÑIGO GONZÁLEZ DE SAN ROMÁN

GAME DESIGNER | UNREAL ENGINE, BLUEPRINTS & C++ | Unity & C#

PROTOTYPING, SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION, Level streaming

My Story

During my Computer Engineering + Digital Transformation of the Enterprise degree at the University of Deusto, I already used all my project to gain experience on game development, as I prototyped a Game Dev Tycoon as well as a single-player Hearthstone in Java during my first years.

As a final project I developed a more advanced prototype of a card game in Unity named Mythic Duels. It incorporated the multiplayer system at a time when the engine did not offer official solutions to add this kind of functionality. This degree also gave me the necessary technical background to be a Technical Designer, as I learned C# and C++ among other other languages not oriented to videogame development such as Java, R, and Python.

After graduating, I decided to definitely focus on videogame development, more specifically on design, so my next step was to do a master's degree in that subject at U-Tad. There I learnt the basics of videogame design and was lucky enough to have experienced professionals as teachers.

This stage ended with a group project that brought together students from the design, art and programming master's degrees and lasted 9 months. Together with my group, Spiky Duck Studio, I developed Maskerade: The Deadpan Cry, a survival horror with a strong narrative and social critique in the role of Technical Game Designer. This allowed me to combine general design tasks such as documentation and mechanics design, or level design with more technical tasks such as helping in the development of enemy AI and in the development of an editor tool to improve performance or taking care of level streaming.

This game was nominated for best university game at the BIG Conference 2022 in Bilbao.

Having officially finished the development of Maskerade, I decided to develop a Unity mobile game called Project: Planeshifter within other two members of Spiky Duck Studio.

In April 2023, I started working on Creek Games as a Unreal Programmer for their game Fragments of Child.

In addition, I also started teaching both Unity and Unreal Engine in Egibide at their specialisation course in videogame development.

Recently, I have decided to end my time as Unreal Programmer at Creek Games to focus on redirecting my career to the technical designer profile, the position that I think best fits my skills and interests.

On a more personal level, in addition to playing videogames, I am a regular D&D player and master, a regular gym-goer and a basketball lover.
